Lionsgate announced that they are in final talks with Owen Wilson to sign on his role in Wonder, the dramatic film that will be released in April of 2017. The movie is a rendition of the touching story penned by Raquel J. Palacio which tells the struggle of a boy with mandibulofacial dysostosis, a rare facial deformity. The book has sold over two-million copies since its publication, and the film is an attempt to continue spreading the important message. Moviegoers looking for a poignant story, some comedy relief and an overall significant plot will want to visit the cinema for a viewing of Wonder next spring.

Wonder on the Big Screen
So here are some of the details we’ve managed to glean about the upcoming film:
- The screenplay was written by Jack Thorne and Steve Conrad.
- Directing the heart-warming tale will be Stephen Chbosky, and producing the film will be a combination effort of David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman.
- The cast is pretty solid as well, with some tremendous talent rumored to be appearing. Jacob Tremblay, the ten year old Canadian actor who wowed audiences with his performance in Room – a role in which he was actually nominated for screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role and won him the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best young Performer and the Academy Canadian Cinema and Television Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, (not bad for a nine year old!) – will play the role of August Pullman. August is a child who struggles with birth defects that render him “different”, but he rallies to the challenge and becomes a hero by the end of the film (no real spoiler there!)
- Julia Roberts is playing Tremblay’s mom in the film, and she’s looking just as fetching as ever. Despite the fact that Lionsgate has released no further information about the cast, with Wilson cast as the father role, the line-up promises an outstanding performance for audiences to enjoy.
Owen Wilson Career on Spotlight
Owen Wilson is well-known for his roles in several successful movies including Shanghai Knights, The Royal Tenenbaums, the entire Night at The Museum film series, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and his hilarious depiction of a male model played alongside Ben Stiller in Zoolander. While most of his more popular appearances have been within the comedy setting, Wilson’s character in this film is sure to play to a new and equally talented side of his personality. Wonder hits the theaters April 7, 2017, and you had better bring some tissues.
